IT'S NOT THAT SIMPLE (2008-2018)

tangled mess promo.jpg

Over the past few years, Grey Box Collective has focused on illuminated marginalized stories about sexual violence, hate, and shame. Drawing inspiration from previous performances, GBC aims to discover how to recover, heal, and grow from those experiences in Tangled Mess (2019).

Below is a letter to the audience that originally appeared in the program.

Dear audience,
Life and our society can be very messy in general. We all feel and experience this mess in unique ways. Some of the mess we have created on our own and often the mess has emerged from the collisions we have with other people, systems, beliefs, cultures, and values.
In this exploration, we have more questions than answers. How do we sit in our mess? How does our mess inform our interaction with those around us? Are there more similarities between individuals than we realize?
We're going to throw a lot of things at you. Perhaps more than is possible to process all right here, right now, and that's okay. If anything awakens lost memories or pain, please share it. Maybe now, maybe later, maybe with a friend, or with a professional.
Thank you for you being here. Please engage with the performance however you wish to as we work towards embracing the complexities of human nature.

Sincerely,
The Tangled Mess Creative Team
